We are 2 months out now, nearly as long as we were in the cast. My son is walking and running again. He jumps, climbs, and wrestles. I feel like he lost a little time with his motor skill development while in the cast and recovering, but he is catching up fast. He was always a little on the timid side anyways. He still talks about sometimes, mostly because he hears us talk about it. And we are always on the lookout for potential dangers or signs of injury to that leg, even a rash makes us jumpy, but we’re getting better at letting go.

Mom Says:
I just found these links to your spica cast saga. I wish I had found you 4 months ago. My daughter began her own spica cast saga on Sept. 5th, 2008.
She turned 4 yrs old on Sept 8th.
She got out of her casts on Dec. 16th.
She starts physical therapy on Feb 2nd to help restore her range of motion.
It was a very difficult time for us.

Oh, boy, good luck with the the physical therapy. I think that was one benefit of my son being so young, after a few weeks he was up and moving (although it took longer than the doctors said it would). Its been about 8 months and he’s back to normal. He still remembers it though, and often mentions it. How did your daughter end up in the spica cast?
