Your story is fabulous. You are a great writer and the story is inspiring. It's hard not to be discouraged when I get the glares, stares, and comments about breastfeeding in public, but I try to remember what's important. I want to say to them, "My super power - I make milk, what do you do?"

I agree, things change with new experiences. We mothers need to be more willing to let people see us breastfeeding so that future generations think of it as normal, and not so out of the ordinary. The more people see it happen, the more comfortalbe people will be with it. It is about changes minds and changing our culture.

It's so funny. It just depends where you are in life. I remember before kids being soooo uncomfortable when someone just unbuttoned and started nursing. Then, I had a colicky nurse all the time baby, and well, things changed!!

So true, things are better now than they used to be, but we are still so far behind so many other countries. Breasts are so sexualized. You see more on a billboard than you do on a nursing mother, yet there are no objections to the ad. I've tried to feed my baby in the bathroom too, and had the same thought, I wouln't eat in here, why is he? I hope too that we can get people to see what is really impotant; the health and wellness of our children. Thanks for your reply!

I breastfed two babies who are now 20 and 24 (the 24 year old for 3 1/2 years, the 20 year old for 2 1/2 years - their choice). These same issues come up again and again, because we as a society have sexualized breasts to the extent that people are uncomfortable seeing them used for their most important function... feeding human babies!

I fed my children everywhere, including restaurants, whenever possible. I remember trying to feed on of my babies in a bathroom stall once, and thinking "how ridiculous... no one should have to eat in the bathroom!!!"

At least now you can find family areas in malls, comfortable seating, to nurse a baby. There are baby changing areas, which was unheard of when my children were babies. The world is changing. Slowly. We just have to keep reminding people what's important.

The future of our planet: our children.
